News outlets in Finland recently published a list of baby names rejected by the Finnish authorities in 2022. In Finland, names must be registered in the population database. A naming oversight committee has the final say over which names are acceptable.

The rejected names included:

Jezebel (likely inspired by this)
Kaaos (meaning Chaos)
Lucifer
Paperi (Paper)
Uhka (Menace)

and the definitely different Nat8hquhs.

In previous years, Finnish authorities have rejected names including:

Alcapone
Ammu (Shoot)
Tuhka (Ash)
Xstina

and Sweethoneybeebambi ← my personal fave.

Neighbouring Sweden also regulates baby naming. In 2010 CNN reported that Swedish authorities had rejected the names:

A (pronounced ‘Albin’)
Metallica
Superman
and (of course) Ikea.

Authorities accepted Google (as a middle name) and Lego.
