Missing in Sweden: Mattias, 17
The identical twin who vanished on a dark December night
Ljungby, Sweden
Seventeen-year-old Mattias ‘Matti’ Borg lived with his mother Erika Borg and his identical twin brother Dennis in an apartment on Föreningsgatan Street in the centre of the small town of Ljungby (pronounced ‘Jung-boo’), southern Sweden.
His mother considered Mattias to be conscientious and well-behaved. In December 2020, Mattias was two months away from turning 18.
On Friday, December 4, 2020, night fell around 4 pm and a pitch-black darkness descended.
At 5 pm, Erika Borg returned home from work and Mattias excitedly told his mother that he had found the perfect college course to apply to when he graduated high school in two years’ time — a teacher education program with French, which would include studying in France for a semester.
The Party
On Friday evening, Mattias and Dennis both went to a small house party on Ågårdsvägen Street, close to their home.
They later moved to another house party on Klotvägen Street about 1km (0.6 miles) away in the east of Ljungby, across the Lagan River which runs through the town. Mattias did not know the girl whose party this was.
