How I Pack For Travel Abroad

10kg weight limit? No problem!

Definitely not me. Trainers are a must for power-walking through airports! Photo by Gabrielle Henderson on Unsplash

I am from the UK but live in Finland so even if I didn't love travel it would be part of my life in order to see my dear family and friends.

Even for long-distance and long trips, I only ever take hand luggage — one small wheeled suitcase (or trolley) which I can carry on, plus a backpack.

The added hassle of having to check a bag and then wait for it on arrival, plus the effort of dragging a big suitcase around are no-nos for me. I only take what I can happily carry!

My top three tips for travelling light:

Rock and roll it

This is my top space-saving tip: don’t fold your clothes, roll them. Seriously, they take up much less space that way and stay wrinkle-free, plus you can easily see where everything is in your suitcase.

To keep your packed clothes and suitcase clean, shoes should be packed in plastic or fabric bags which can then be used as laundry bags at your destination.

Make sure your suitcase is bottom (wheel end) heavy so that it doesn’t tip forward when fully packed. And weigh it so you don’t get caught out at the airport with an overweight bag!
